Downtown, Since the 1970s has gone through some redevelopment and has been expanding and redeveloping significantly since the late 1990s. Home of many commercial services along Jasper Avenue.
Originally located to the north of Fort Edmonton, established on the site of today's legislature grounds. However, the Hudson Bay Company Reserve lands were situated north of the Fort, and as the town grew it was forced east of the Fort for expansion.
Jasper Avenue remains the main avenue in Edmonton, but many commercial activities have expanded west of 97 Street. The neighborhood provides office, retail, warehouse, residential housing, and land. Home of the Provincial government center, Jasper Avenue, Ice District, Roger's Arena, Brewery District, and the Alberta Museum.
The downtown real estate is bordered North by 105th Avenue, East by 97 Street, South by 97th Avenue, and West by 109 Street.
